About Darrell

Experience

Veteran – I am an Army Veteran, finishing with a final rank of Captain. I am the only member of the Commissioners Court with military experience.

Education – I Graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. It routinely tops the top public educations in the United States with multiple #1 rankings by Forbes, US News and World Report, and the Princeton Review. I would bring my mathematics and engineering degree to bear on problem solving for the county. I recently graduated with my Executive Masters of Business Administration at the University of Texas at Dallas with Honors - Scholar with Distinction.

Family Life – I am a husband of 22 years and married to the woman I was meant to be with. I am a proud father of four young women. I attend with my family Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Allen. I have lived in Collin County since the late 90's.

Corporate Technology Experience – As a global account manager I had exposure to high tech in the Telecom Corridor in Collin County for 14 years. I bring tech savvy to everything that I do.

Successful Small Business Owner – I grew my business from $0 to the top producing franchise over five years. I have been a steward of my own money and I understand spending money on things that matter first and then on things that are nice to have. You can’t always have both and I will be a good steward of your tax dollars. I continue to create jobs for our county and country.

My Background

My wife Marie and I have been married since 2001, and I have lived in the area since the late 90's. We have four daughters whom we are raising as Christian leaders, and we attend services in Allen. I am the son of a Korean War vet, and my parents were small business owners.  I lost my father when I was in the 10th grade and my mother worked 3 jobs for a time (Machine Shop, Franchise Owner, and for the local ISD) in order to provide for me. I knew it was up to me to secure my way to school and was recipient of numerous scholarships to include Texas A&M with ROTC and the Sul Ross Scholarship. I proudly received nominations to West Point from both Senators and my State Representative and ultimately accepted.

I accepted my appointment to West Point and after graduating was stationed at Fort Sill and Fort Hood. I went into the reserves and exited as a Captain. Since then I've worked in telecom, for a variety of startups in management and leadership roles. I took that entrepreneurial spirit with me starting a franchise that we grew to the largest of its kind in just three years. I credit that quick growth to my experiences among some of the nation's best military leaders and among some of the best tech leaders. I have now served as your County Commissioner since my first election in 2018 and my second election, and first full term, since 2020.

I am proud of my family, and my family's daily hard work at our business to serve our customers and deliver results consistently to our clients. We have been franchise of the year twice, and our team has received several awards.

In my community involvements, I have participated with the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County on multiple Christmas bike builds, the Make-A-Wish Foundation making wishes come true. I have participated in many organizations and clubs over the past twenty years in Collin County as a member of Team RWB, the National Rifle Association, Sons of the American Revolution, Allen-Fairview Rotary, American Mensa, the Plano Bicycling Association, and Allen Kiwanis. I was also formerly a member of our church finance committee for a three year term at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.
